Quick Tips Newsletter

Welcome to this ‘Mediation Quick Tips’: Newsletter Issue 8

How to use ChatGPT to help you practise your mediation skills – a recording from an exciting, interesting and informative webinar by Giuseppe Leone.

My previous newsletter announced the webinar held on January 9, 2024, where Leone, a retired mediator with extensive experience in both in-person and online mediation since 1997, demonstrated how to use ChatGPT for mediation simulations and skill development. Leone, based in Hawaii, generously allowed the sharing of the webinar recording, accessible through the link provided at the end of this article.

It is divided into three sections:

  1. Mediation Quick Tips
  2. Theory behind the Quick Tips
  3. How to apply this theory to practice

1. Mediation Quick Tips

Learn ChatGPT to practice and hone your mediation skills – in private and at your own pace.

It is safe, it is free and very exciting!

Ssshhh… I even used ChatGPT to condense some of the paragraphs in this article!

2. Theory behind Mediation Quick Tips

In the webinar, Giuseppe Leone shares his insights, experiences and lessons from conducting numerous mock mediations with ChatGPT with over 300 participants, including mediation trainees, beginner and experienced mediators, and mediation trainers worldwide. Following his presentation, Giuseppe demonstrated setting up a mediation simulation with ChatGPT, empowering participants to practice and enhance their mediation skills at their own pace.

Giuseppe also explains why Gerry O’Sullivan’s book ‘The Mediator’s Toolkit: Formulating and Asking Questions for Successful Outcomes’ is so useful in ChatGPT-assisted mediation simulations. To learn more about the book and its accompanying online training: https://www.osullivansolutions.ie/ or email Gerry at .

3. How to apply this theory to practice?

At the end of his presentation, Giuseppe demonstrated a brief mediation simulation using ChatGPT, providing participants with the knowledge to use it for practicing and honing their mediation skills at their own pace. He also explained the availability of a “Getting Started Kit” for mediators interested in setting up and running their first ChatGPT-assisted mediation simulation.
