Investigation is the formal procedure used in response to a complaint within an organisation about bullying, harassment and sexual harassment. The Investigation procedure seeks to identify the facts of a case and provides a report outlining its findings. This is done within the framework of the Employment Equality Acts, the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act and Common Law.

The investigating officer plays a very important role as the investigation and subsequent action greatly depends on the opinion of the investigating officers.
